A
New Jersey native, Alice was employed
by the U.S. Government and spent most of her spare time singing and
traveling. She came west in 1977, married and settled down with her
husband, Jerry, on a small cattle ranch. After retiring in 2000, she
began to work with clay, something she had been unable to do while
working full time. As she became comfortable with a wheel and kiln, art
classes seemed like a good idea to add interest to her growing output of
pots, vases, jars and dishes/platters.
Watercolor
was her first medium after clay, and it has become a soothing pastime.
In addition, she has done color pencil and pencil drawing work. Subject
matter for her art is eclectic and includes figures, faces, flowers and
landscapes. This visual arts absorption has lessened her pottery output
but certainly not limited it. Since the art scene is something new for
Alice,
she has not competed for artistic recognition. She does, however, show
her work throughout the
Moapa
Valley as part of “Art on Tour.”
Alice
still sings and is a member of her church choir. And the occasional trip
fills her spare time. She and Jerry live in Overton,
Nevada. She is a proud mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Her brother, Berard Hofmann, is a noted artist residing in
Glenwood Springs,
CO.
