Charlotte was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, but was raised in Tampa, Florida. She had great artistic urgings as a child, but her parents stressed science as the “appropriate” area of study rather than art. As a result, Charlotte’s major in college was mathematics.
In the early 1970’s, as a “change of pace,” Charlotte and her husband moved from South Florida to Eugene, Oregon. There she spent the majority of four years studying design, drawing, printmaking, jewelry, ceramics, and weaving.
Since moving to Las Vegas in 1979, Charlotte has been working full time with art; first ceramics, then fiber, then printmaking, and now almost exclusively with watercolor. In addition to doing artwork, she teaches watercolor classes and multimedia classes and workshops throughout the Southwest.
Charlotte Lang considers happiness as “working with color, patterns, shapes, textures, lines … all the elements of visual arts.” This fact is evident when considering the totality of her work in the past ten years. She is versatile in many media; watercolor, ceramics, printmaking, collage and fiber. “Though I am concentrating on watercolor at the present time,” she says, “I know I will return to the other media because each art form lends itself differently to the expression of what I see and feel.”
A member of the Nevada Watercolor Society, Charlotte produces most of her work for private collectors, although several of her pieces appear in public and business collections. Charlotte’s work has been recognized in numerous competitions and has appeared in several solo exhibits.
