Sandra has worked in art since she was very young. She was lucky to have parents that encouraged her artistic talents. She became serious about art in her mid forties and took some six years of college night courses in different fields of art.
Due to this
training, she started showing her work at local galleries around the
central coast of California where she was living at the time. She has
since moved to the Southern Nevada area, and continues to show in local
galleries. She has done a lot of traveling in the North and Southwest,
the deep South and Hawaii.
All of her work
comes from photos she has taken on her travels. She especially likes to
go to Native American Pow Wows and take pictures of the dancers. These
she later turns into paintings. She also has a great love of flowers and
plants, so a lot of her work is of that subject.
Her work is influenced by the Impressionists of Europe and California. She feels that even though most people would say her work is realistic, she feels it represents her impression of what she sees. She tries to paint things from a little bit different angle. Sometimes she just “crawls inside” her subject. She works in both oils and water colors.
She is a mother of three and grandmother of four, and loves spending time with her family. She has goats at her home which keep her thoroughly entertained. She also seems to collect stray cats.
